- Apple Inc. took a record majority of world-wide smartphone profit share in the third quarter as Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. plunged in the wake of the disastrous Note 7 recall.In the quarter, which included Samsung's first and second recalls and the discontinuation of the exploding Note 7's production, Samsung's 005930, +0.00% global profit share fell from nearly a third, 31.2% in the prior quarter, to absolutely nothing.That sent the profit share of its largest competitor, Apple AAPL, +0.50% , to a record 91%, compared with 62.2% in the second quarter, according to Strategy Analytics.

Apple raked in a record 91 per cent of all smartphone profits in the third quarter

- APPLE EMPLOYEES are likely set for a lavish Christmas party this year, with the firm raking in more than 90 per cent of total smartphone profits in the third quarter of 2016.So says Strategy Analytics, which reveals that with a Q3 operating profit of $8.5m (around £6.8m), Apple bagged a record 91 per cent share of all smartphone profits.This comes despite Android's continued dominance, with Google's operating system accounting for an equally record-breaking 88 per cent of smartphone shipments in Q3, compared to Apple's paltry 12.2 per cent share.
