- For the first time ever, Chinese smartphone manufacturer Huawei has beaten Samsung to become the world's most profitable Android device maker, showing a reversal in the Korean smartphone maker's fortunes.For the third quarter of 2016, although Samsung surpassed all other Android smartphone makers in terms of the volume and value of devices it shipped, due to the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 fiasco, its smartphone profits fell so low that at least three other device manufacturers have surpassed it, according to a new report by research firm Strategy Analytics.As usual, Apple continues to have the lion's share of global smartphone operating profits, earning a total of $8.5bn (£6.8bn) in Q3, which is 91% of the total share.

- Huawei Technologies has displaced Samsung Electronics to become the second most profitable smartphone supplier in the world for the quarter ended September 30, followed by two other Chinese brands Vivo and Oppo, a latest report by research firm Strategy Analytics shows.The Shenzhen-based Huawei generated some $200 million of smartphone operating profit -- earnings before interest and tax -- worldwide during the quarter, equivalent to 2.4 percent share of the global smartphone operating profits, trailed by Vivo and Oppo's 2.2 percent shares, according to the report.Apple remains the most profitable mobile phone brand, gaining $8.5 billion, or 91 percent share in smartphone profits in the third quarter out of the total $9.4 billion operating profit, Strategy Analytics estimated.

- Huawei Technologies, China's largest telecommunications equipment manufacturer, has displaced Samsung Electronics to become the second most profitable smartphone supplier in the world in the three months ended September 30, according to research firm Strategy Analytics.The Shenzhen-based company had a 2.4 per cent share of the global smartphone operating profits in the third quarter, behind US technology giant Apple's dominant 91 per cent share."It also became the world's most profitable Android smartphone vendor for the first time," Strategy Analytics executive director Neil Mawston told the South China Morning Post on Wednesday.
