- Nokia Returns To Smartphone Market In 2017A lot of eyebrows were raised back in June when Richard Yu, Huawei's head of consumer electronics, told a packed tech conference that the Chinese company has set its sights on overtaking both Apple and Samsung to be the number one phone company in the world.Huawei's still got some ways to go, but it's already achieved a small victory: overtake Samsung as the world's most profitable Android maker and second most profitable phone company in the world, according to the latest report by research firm Strategy Analytics.Now I say the victory is small because of two reasons: Samsung's fall this quarter is almost certainly tied to the Note 7 fiasco (so it might just be a temporary dropoff), and Apple soaks up so, so much of smartphone profits that finishing second is still a tiny chunk of the pie.

- The Chinese multinational Huawei Technologies has now risen to be the most profitable among Android brands, says a report from the Massachusetts-based consulting and market research firm Strategy Analytics.The report claims that Huawei earned an operating profit of $0.2 billion from its global operations in Q3.This represents a 2% share of all profits from smartphones and an overall second spot making Huawei the most profitable among Android vendors globally, for the first time since its inception.
