Huawei calls for the ‘video referee’ to rule on security claims

according to Chinese telecommunications giant Huawei was prepared to work with an independent "video referee" to make sure its 5G technology in Australia was free from security threats, company director Ms Chen Lifang said yesterday. "We are working with many countries around the world (on the development of 5G technology), in Asia, Europe and in Canada, including companies like Vodafone and Deutsche Telecom. Ms Chen said Huawei was prepared to leverage technology to help address "any speculation and concern" about its 5G equipment in Australia. Market leader Telstra has already opted to work with Sweden's Ericsson for its 5G technology. Huawei and Ericsson are the major players in 5G technology, followed by Nokia.

A decision about locking certain companies out of the 5G network is expected to be made by the National Security Committee of Cabinet soon. "We provided that security advice to the State Opposition, for them now to ignore that I think shows just how low they'll go."
