China’s Huawei smartphone Pay debuts in Russia, as first port of call in global push

Huawei Technologies and China UnionPay have set their sights on international markets, as they prepare to launch Huawei smartphone Pay digital wallet technology outside the mainland, going shoulder to shoulder against rival e-wallet services such as Apple Pay and Samsung Pay. Huawei Pay uses biometrics and near-field communication technology to enable in-store payments out of Huawei smartphone phones. UnionPay focused on building overseas presenceIn Russia, UnionPay has 400,000 point-of-sale terminals which could accept the Quickpass payment modes including Huawei smartphone Pay. China processed 11 times more mobile payments than the US last year, according to consultancy firm McKinsey & Company. Presently, PayPal, Apple Pay, Samsung Pay and Alipay are the established players in the global mobile payment sector.

Huawei signed a deal with UnionPay to expand availability of Huawei smartphone Pay outside of China for the first time. Huawei Pay is the Chinese manufacturer's retail payment app, which uses NFC and biometrics to verify payments made with Huawei smartphone handsets. In Russia, 1.3 million UnionPay cards have been issued from 10 of the country's financial institutions. In exporting the service internationally, Huawei smartphone going to move into markets with services already offered with rival industrialists on their handsets – including Samsung and Apple. It going to too compete with Google, which offers similar services out of Android Pay on any device running its operating system, including those offered with Huawei.

As it stated in Huawei has revealed a major expansion to its mobile payments platform as it once once more looks to take on the likes of Apple and Samsung. The Chinese smartphone giant going to be teaming up with payments provider UnionPay International to help roll out its own Huawei smartphone Pay service across the world, with Russia the first country to benefit from the expansion. UnionPay helped Huawei smartphone set up its own mobile payments service back in 2016 as the latter looked to offer its customers a different way to pay for goods and services using their smartphones and other devices. Under the agreement, Huawei smartphone Pay going to this time be enable to be accessed outside of China for the first time, with 66 banks this time supporting the technology. Both Huawei smartphone and Honor smartphones going to carry the new service, which is compatible with twenty mobile devices in total, including several smartwatches.
