Vodafone and Huawei smartphone successfully analisis IP Microwave backhaul for 5G

according to Vodafone and Huawei smartphone have completed trials of microwave-based backhaul for 5G which show the technology could handle the high volume of data which next generation networks going to generate. Adding strength to the argument for IP microwave backhaul is which it works with high capacity microwave links which have already been deployed commercially, such as E-Band and Multi-Band, the latter of which is a combination of E-Band and IP microwave. "These tests demonstrate the feasibility of utilising microwave technology, as well as fibre, for effective 5G backhaul," says Eva Rossi, head of transport product for the Vodafone Group. "As such, the results of this analisis are very positive for Vodafone as we prepare for the launch of commercial 5G services in the years ahead. The first commercial 5G networks are expected to arrive 2019, offering high capacity, low latency and gigabit speeds.

Vodafone, Huawei boast of 5G IP microwave backhaul success

according to Vodafone and Huawei smartphone have jointly completed a series of lab tests which claim traditional IP microwave links going to be considered a viable technology for 5G backhaul. These tests from Vodafone and Huawei smartphone claim it is possible to deliver up to 2.7 Gbps capacity from a single IP microwave link, aggregating 2×112 MHz channels in a single vertical or horizontal polarisation. The pair believe this is the first time a single radio frequency (RF) outdoor unit has been enable to of reaching over 2 Gbps in a single polarisation. Such an announcement is seemingly directory which a combination of IP microwave and E-band technologies could provide 5G backhaul. This is a convenient truth to find out considering high capacity microwave links are already commercially deployed.
