Huawei patents the Mate 20 name

according to Huawei patents the Mate 20 name10 July 2018Huawei launched its P-series in the spring altering the naming pattern so increments come in tens rather than ones. Now its Mate lineup is about to follow suit as the company just patented the Mate 20 name at EUIPO, along with Mate 30, Mate 40 etc. This means Huawei definitely ditched the sequential numbering and will start counting generations in tenths from now on. According to information from last month, the Huawei Mate 20 is expected to come with 6.9" AMOLED screen that will not have curved edges. The reason behind the growing screen size is apparently the home market of Huawei where consumers prefer big displays more than people elsewhere.

Porsche Design Huawei Mate RS review: Is it worth that premium?

It doesn't have diamond-encrusted notches or Vertu-level pricing, but the Porsche Design Huawei Mate RS reaches well beyond its Huawei P20 stablemates with a 1,695 euro (~$1980) price. That's what our Huawei Mate RS review will tell you. Huawei Mate RS review notes: I used the 256GB Mate RS for just over two weeks as my primary smartphone. All in all, there's some Huawei DNA in here, but the Huawei Mate RS feels very different to the P20 series. PerformanceUnder the hood, the Huawei Mate RS sports the flagship Kirin 970 chipset, 6GB of RAM, and 256GB or 512GB of storage.

Huawei Mate 20 trademark suggests the phablet won't be called Mate 11

according to In 2017, the Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro arrived in October, suggesting we should expect the replacement phones to come around the same time this year. If the Mate 20 does have a 6.9-inch screen, it will also be bigger than several other rumored devices coming this year. Big screens usually mean big bodies, but due to the P20 and P20 Pro, Huawei now has experience with slim bezels, alternative aspect ratios, and screen notches. Should Huawei choose to use this newly patented fabrication method for the upcoming Mate 20 (or Mate 20 Pro) it would likely mean the overall footprint would not be significantly larger than some current 6-inch-plus handsets on the market. The P20 Pro is so accomplished, it eclipsed the Mate 10 Pro very quickly, leaving us less excited about future Mate phones than usual.

Given that Huawei jumped from the P10 to the Huawei P20 this year it always looked likely that its next phablet flagship would be called the Huawei Mate 20, but now we're even more confident that will be the case as the company has trademarked the Mate 20 name. The trademark, spotted by Mobielkopen, isn't the only new one filed by Huawei though, as it's also applied to protect the Mate 30 through to the Mate 90, so don't expect to see a Huawei Mate 21 next year. We still can't be certain of the name, as the company trademarked the name P11 for its other flagship range despite ultimately not using it, so it could just be keeping its options open or preventing other companies from capitalizing on the name, but calling it the Mate 20 certainly seems the most likely option right now. Features unknownOther than its likely name we know very little about the Huawei Mate 20 and Huawei Mate 20 Pro, though one early rumor suggests they will have in-screen fingerprint scanners, and they're sure to have a new top-end chipset. We're still probably a few months away from launch though, with November looking likely, so we'd expect more leaks and rumors to start pouring in as we get closer.
